New fuel and emissions tests come into effect 1st September with optional extras also becoming part of the test.
These will affect the real life CO2 footprint, which may then impact on the vehicle’s tax rate. From 1 Sept 2017 this new testing is only going to apply to new models launched into the European market, from Sept 2018 it will apply to all new cars sold in Europe, not just new models.
The new tests will address the loophole issues surrounding the current test where, legally, manufacturers can remove spare wheels, wing mirrors and seal cracks around doors and windows to minimise air resistance.
