Now this makes perfect sense for pedestrian safety – US road safety body, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, has called for electric and hybrid vehicles traveling at low speeds to make some noise.

Pedestrians with visual or hearing impairments are particularly at risk as they need to be able to detect when a vehicle is approaching, and especially at low speeds, as these engines make little noise.

A new safety rule has been passed and manufacturers have until 1 September 2019 to make the required changes which could prevent 2,400 injuries a year in the US.

Lets hope this gets adopted in the UK as well.
